Get Your Basement Remodel Done During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re all spending a lot more time at home than usual, and will be for the foreseeable future, even after many of the stay-at-home orders start to relax. With all that time being spent at home, now’s as good a time as any to complete the remodeling projects you’ve been thinking about so you can get the most enjoyment possible out of your home relaxation.
A basement remodel in Pennsylvania can be a great way to add usable space to your home and to create a spot where you can keep yourself entertained while public spaces are unavailable or pose a higher risk than you’re comfortable with. Here are just a few examples of some ideas you might implement for your basement:
- Movie theater: Do you spend a lot of time watching movies and television shows? You can get the most out of your home viewing experience by creating a theater right in your basement. You can design a basement that takes audio quality into consideration, including speaker placement, soundproofing and dampening. Certain styles of lighting can also help you set the mood for the home theater experience. And of course, don’t forget all the sound equipment you’re going to want to purchase!
- Bar: What’s more classic for a basement remodel than creating a basement bar? If you’re going to create a wet bar, then you’re going to want to start by running the plumbing to wherever the bar will be located, which can be complex and expensive, depending on the setup. Otherwise, a dry bar can be built in whatever location you wish. Be sure to consider lighting over and behind the bar, as well as what you plan to install behind the bar—will there be shelving, a large display, a television or decorations? You’re going to want some shelving near the bar in addition to the shelving you place inside of it. And be sure to leave space for a refrigerator and other seating in the bar area.
- Rec room: You can combine a rec room with a bar to really get the most out of your basement space. Aside from the bar, you can add items like a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey table, dart board or other classic bar games or activities. For a pool table, you will want to consider adding a light fixture overhead, just as you’d see in a bar or pool hall, which may involve installing some new wiring.
